To achieve a rustic look in your home, choose Daltile's 16 in. x 16 in. California Gold Slate Floor and Wall Tile. It can add character to floors, walls and countertops. The textured surface has a low sheen that coordinates with many decor themes. It is frost-resistant, so it's suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.

- Grade 1, first-quality natural stone tile for floor, wall and countertop use
- 16 in. length x 16 in. width x 5/8 in. thick
- Unglazed textured finish with a low sheen and a random variation in tone
- P.E.I. Rating III is suitable for medium-duty residential floors including kitchens, halls, corridors, balconies, terraces and areas used more often with normal footwear and small amounts of dirt
- Impervious flooring has water absorption of less than 0.5% for indoor or outdoor use and is frost proof (when proper installation methods are followed)
- C.O.F. less than .50 is marginally skid resistant for indoor use and is recommended for standard residential applications
- Rated for exterior installations in freezing climates, but does contain mineral deposits that can bleed if exposed to standing water; a sealer is strongly recommended

The California Gold Slate is absolutely beautiful! We laid it next to Walnut dark hardwood flooring and it is perfect match.
This slate was easy to install, it cut easy on a cheap tile saw. We were careful and able to cut one tile almost all the way through for a heat vent. Thought for sure it would break, but it didn't. We did use some dupont sealant that makes the final look almost wet. Very pleased.

Buy ExtraWe had to buy almost double quantities because the quality of the slate was so poor. We did end up finding enough pieces to do the job, which turned out great, but it was pretty inconvenient to have to go back for more slate several times. I'd suggest opening the boxes at HD and picking out the good ones ahead of time, or be prepared to return the rejects. They did take everything we didn't use back, even the ones that were broken.

Irregular/inconsistent sizing, cracked easilyWere going to install @10 sq ft fireplace hearth area on diagonal. Several tiles cracked/broke when we simply removed from box & set on carpeted area. Also, not all 12"x12"...some 12 1/8", some 11 7/8" etc...didn't discover until trying to dry fit. Home Depot store great w/online order return though, & we replaced w/a tile we bought in store.

I could not see if the 16 X 16 inch pieces you were to send me would even remotely match the exis...I could not see if the 16 X 16 inch pieces you were to send me would even remotely match the existing slate I had put in for the entrance to my front door 11 years ago. There was an irrigation tubing leak under that entrance area I was going to fix. But, one of the 5 boxes that came to me had all of one of the corners broken and in the 2nd box the top piece was broken in half. I didn't bother to inspect any of the other boxes as that meant cutting the straps which kept these heavy pieces together.
So, Really, I'm sure none of the pieces were going to fit in with my existing slate's hue and texture . (that's not Daltile's fault). But. the shipping of the boxes was too rough or the packing was not sufficient.
My suggestion is dor Home Depot to have examples of the Daltile styles of slate on display so people don't have to look at an online picture and guess.

Love this slate so much! Definitely a hassle the install due to the tile not being calibrated or ...Love this slate so much! Definitely a hassle the install due to the tile not being calibrated or honed. But all the effort is definitely worth it. The thickness varies a lot- just add more thinset in those tiles to level them. Also- buy at least 30% more due to breakage. Home Depot takes them back without any issue.
