For our home, rich in earth-tones, his is very complimentary satin slate-look (yet porcelain) tile. To me, the look resembles a highly varied basalt base rock with light lines of feldspar and lots of other interesting 'natural-looking color detail. It is hard to describe The well-defined 'rainbow' look over the entire tile as seen in the advertising photos is maybe 10% or less of the total tiles. I think that is good, as too much might not blend well. At the same time there are more subdued pieces with the effect exhibiting itself in the rusty orange and grey-blue. Very nice. There is a lot of color/tone/shade variation between tiles. It is hard to find a tile that you might want to cut for filler pieces, because each one you pick up you usually think 'look at this one'! Spend some time laying them out, mixing boxes, picking light/dark, and arranging in advance of placement for the best architectural effect. The slate-style look with the performance of porcelain is a real plus.We are installing it now, and as the coverage grows, we like the look more with each passing day.

Slate Look-a-likeI found this Daltile Ayers Rock (Majestic Mound) product when it was first introduced at the showroom and fell in love after a long search for a slate look porcelain based on texture, colors, and realistic look. Two years ago, I had my hall and guest bath tile installed. After rocking 2 walls in my living room with a 24" high raised slab 4" slate hearth for a corner woodstove, I installed this tile below on the floor angled on the 2 walls with my wood flooring throughout the rest of my room.
This tile saved my home from burning down! One evening I was poking around the fire and a large and heavy burning log rolled out and dropped down onto this porcelain tile. Not a crack nor a mark was left!
I have other Daltile porcelain in my home in my MBR with a huge walk in shower that has also been dropped on with absolutely no marks or breakage. The review I read only giving this tile 3 starts was unfair based solely on a shipping problem and not the actual product itself.

This product has vivid blends of color that can't be appreciated in any of the photos or by looki...This product has vivid blends of color that can't be appreciated in any of the photos or by looking at only a few actual tile samples. This is especially true if you mix the 13" x 13" sizes with 6" x 6" and the 3" x 3" mosaic tiles. Tiles are high quality and easy to cut/install. Very pleased with this product and have obtained a second order for another bathroom remodel that I am now working on.
In addition, Home Depot's in-store delivery can't be beat. I prefer that for my projects since orders can be quickly picked up, unpacked, inspected, and loaded into my van without being exposed to rain, snow, etc. Home Depot will recycle the containers and packaging materials for you, too.

Also Home Depot process were much less than the quoted tile store prices for the same product.

I spent a long time searching for the right color of tile for my shower area and I was worried th...I spent a long time searching for the right color of tile for my shower area and I was worried that this one wouldn't be right because I couldn't see it before ordering. I was able to see bathroom photos with this one used and they looked great, so I went with it. The result is beautiful! We used all the different sizes for a professionally designed look and I am very pleased with the color. I wasn't the installer so I can't speak to its ease of installation, but the final product, with a darker color of grout is excellent. It was just finished so I don't yet know about longevity. Overall, I'm very satisfied and it came in before the date predicted by Home Depot.

Lots of terrific variation in this tile. I had hoped...Lots of terrific variation in this tile. I had hoped for something that looked a tad bit more like slate, but this was better and wasn't as dark as slate. We redid a 11x7 laundry room that previously had 8x8 tiles in it. Shifting to the 6.5x6.5 was a great move, particularly with the colors. Used a nice truffle colored grout that really made things come together.
